The inaugural Fitscience GP took place in Ballina, Co. Mayo on a cold and wintery Sunday morning at the end of March. A testing 120km route for the A1's A2's and A3's was run alongside a 70km route for the A4's. An early split was correctly predicted as a small breakaway of 6 racers took charge long before the halfway mark. But as Mike Storan of the promoting club pushed the pace again, only David Nugent of Seven Springs was fit to follow. The two riders worked hard together to put distance between themselves and the chasers, but as they approached the finish line, it was every man for himself. Mike Storan sprinted to a well earned victory, Nugent not having the legs to challenge Storan.
The A4 race was a similar affair seeing the field disseminated as they took on tough climbs on the coast roads around Ballycastle. The finish line camera had an easy job as riders came in spurts of small groups of riders. Ollie Kelly of Longford CC effortlessly sprinted to grab first place leaving the other racers challenging for the remaining placings. Full results and report here:
