Pictures from Swinford Tri Club's first Olympic Triathlon 'The Humbert Challenge' which took place on Sunday 27th July 2014.
The men's race was dominated by Liquid Motion's Stephen Donnelly right from the word go. Brian Sexton from Sligo Tri Club desperately tried to reel him in, but on-form Donnelly simply pushed harder anytime the gap shortened. Donnelly didn't have to wait long to congratulate his opponent as Sexton crossed the finish line only a minute later. The high standard of the first 2 athletes home showed as it took 3rd place Anthony Chappat from Westport Triathlon Club a further 8 minutes to complete the 1km swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
The ladies of Ballina's Liquid Motion dominated the women's race as they took up all the podium places. Lorraine Carey seems to just get stronger and stronger and the Humbert Challenge was another race that proved to be all too easy. She was left chasing 2nd place Deidre Lynn after the swim, but Carey showed her strong bike form and fast running skills to come home 13 minutes clear of the competition. Sharon O'Hara completed the podium, making it a great day for the Ballina girls.
