Images from the Blacksod standard distance triathlon which is part of Triathlon Ireland's National Series. The 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run triathlon was organised and hosted by Kilmore Triathlon Club. Liquid Motion's Stephen Donnelly lead from the word go and was first to exit the swim 1500m sea swim. A number of triathletes were a mere few seconds behind and gave chase but Donnelly only pushed on and increased the gap further, not to be bothered again for the rest of the race. The race for 2nd and 3rd place was a different story. Having been overtaken on the bike leg, Sligo TC's Ross McLynn had some work to do if he wanted to regain his 2nd place status, but putting in an impressive 37:54 10km run split on a testing hilly and rugged course wasn't enough. McLynn finished 14 seconds behind Castles.
The women's race was another clear cut event. Sligo's Caoimhe Ni Mhurchu demonstrated her fish like swmming skills exiting the sea in 4th place overall. After a strong bike, Caoimhe was left only to finish the run at ease, having a huge 12 minute advantage over Go Tri's Victoria Nicholson. Westport Triathlon Club's Ann Marie Egan managed to chase down Marie Boyle on the run to secure the final podium position.
